Snow snow snow. The weather was not perfect but we managed to move to Abbotsford today. I picked up the U-Haul truck in Abbotsford at 12 o’clock:

I booked a 10 foot truck but they gave me a 14 foot for the same price ($19.95 instead of $29.95) because they didn’t want to move trucks around just to get the 10 foot out.

I didn’t make it all the way to the driveway because the cul de sac wasn’t cleared and the snow was just too much. I thought 5 hours would be plenty to throw all our stuff in and unload it at the new place but we ran out of time. It was 3pm already so I decided to go and come back with the car to get the rest. I hurried up but I didn’t make it back to U-Haul in time. 5:25. 25 minutes late… I dropped off the key and came back the next day. That old Dodge 3500 truck is thirsty! I put in gas worth $20 (37km)! So the bill came up to $67.82 ($0.69/km + $19.95 + $15.00 insurance + environmental fee of $1.00 + $3.08 GST and $3.26 PST)
The move cost me about $90 (diesel included).

Deutsche Erstausstrahlung: 16.07.1979 (ZDF)
1979 - 1989

Jährliches Sonderprogramm, das den daheimgebliebenen Kindern während der Sommerferien den normalerweise programmfreien Nachmittag verkürzen sollte - insbesondere, falls es mal regnete. Gezeigt wurden Serienwiederholungen aus dem ZDF-Programm, garniert mit Freizeittipps (”Ferienkalender”), Bastel- und Spielideen (”Origami”), Interviewgästen und Musik.
Mit dem Schließen der nachmittäglichen Sendelücke erübrigte sich Ende der 80er für das ZDF auch die Notwendigkeit, ein spezielles Programm auszustrahlen. Das Sommerprogramm für Kinder wanderte für ein paar Jahre noch in den Vormittag, bis es Mitte der 90er ganz begraben wurde.

My first (real) toolbox!

So I bought the Mastercraft toolbox from Canadian Tire. It was on sale for $215 instead of $400.

I asembled it on Saturday at work (yes, I work on Saturday! We have to make up the days we lose over Xmas). Eventhough we left the cardboard box at the store to make it fit into my car, I didn’t notice that it’s damaged! So when I first saw the dents the next day at work, it didn’t really bother me. But on Monday I figured that it’s actually bent pretty bad! I had to put a couple of washer underneath one wheel to even them out. Even that didn’t bother me too much. But then I realized, that the drawer don’t close smoothly and when I looked at it more carefully, I saw that it’s all crooked.
So I decided to go back to Abbotsford and get a new box. But well, they had none in stock! The girl (actually the same one that helped me pushing it into my car) told me that I am the second one that returned it for the same reason. I asked if they have one in Langley and she said they have 10 there. So I went to Langley, made sure I get a good one this time and drove back to my workplace. MAN! But at least I have a decent toolbox now.

Habe bei ebay ein Fühlhebelmessgerät MahrTest 800 SG ersteigert. 50 US$ (inkl. Versand). Dachte es wäre nur in gutem Zustand (wie beschrieben). Tatsächlich ist es aber neu! Von der Qualität bin ich positiv überrascht. Nicht vom Taster selber (Mitutoyo’s sind bestimmt genauso gut). Nei, die Plastikbox ist einfach typisch “Made in Germany” (oder zumindest “Designed in Germany”). Die billigen Mitutoyo Schachteln sind oder waren zumindest extrem nervig! Die verzogen sich grundsätzlich und waren schlecht aufzumachen. Zudem fehlte ein richtiges Scharnier. Einfach grottenbillig!

Die Mahr Schachtel dagegen TOP! Mag sein dass dieses Hartplastik eher bricht. Aber wer schmeißt ein Messgerät schon in der Gegend herum? Die Kleinteile wie der kleine Schlüssel um die Tastspitze abzuschrauben sind alle auf etwa einem Level. Ich versuchte schon den Schlüssel weiter in die dafür vorgesehene Halterung zu schieben. Aber dann merkte ich, warum er soweit oben ist. Wenn man die Schachtel schließt, werden alle Teile (auch der Taster selber) von der Schaumstoffeinlage im Deckel in Position gehalten. Nicht’s scheppert und fällt aus der Fassung! So soll es sein!

Formel 1 mit EINHEITSMOTOREN?

Man hat mit immer mehr Regeln doch eh schon fast Einheitsautos hervorgebracht. Und was Einheitsautos auszeichnet ist eben, dass sie dieselbe Performance haben! Wenn man den Hersteller etwas mehr Spielraum gibt, werden unterschiedliche Konzepte entwickelt und selbst wenn die Autos dann auf eine Runde gesehen gleich schnell wären, würde das eine Auto auf der Geraden schneller sein und das andere in Kurven. Sparen sparen sparen… Ich will Turbo’s gegen Sauger fahren sehen und entweder stufenlose Getriebe oder wieder zurück zu manuellen Getrieben! Stufenlose Getriebe würden der Serie sehr viel bringen. Da kann man noch viel neues erforschen um höhere Drehmomente bzw. Leistung übertragen zu können.
Die F1 wird immer teuer bleiben. Man kann doch genauso gut Windkanäle verbieten! Die Teams entwickeln immer filigranere Aerodynamik Pakete. Und hilft das dem Spektakel? Nein. Der Fan will den Unterschied HÖREN! Es war doch ein Ohrenschmaus den letzten Ferrari V12 Motor hochdrehen zu hören! Wenn man einen weiteren Zusatzflügel sieht ist das alles andere als ein Augenschmaus. Und selbst wenn - den Zuschauer interessiert das herrzlich wenig!
Die Autos brauchen mehr Leistung und weniger Grip. Und noch mehr Luftwiderstand um nicht zu schnell zu werden. Mehr Luftwiderstand bedeutet auch mehr Windschatten.
Man sollte einen Weg finden die “Aerodynamikkosten” einzudämmen um das gesparte Geld wieder in Motoren, Getriebe und andere technische Konzepte zu investieren. Die Aerodynamik könnte für den Fan nicht uninteressanter sein. Viele Fans aber sind technikbegeistert und wollen die LEISTUNG der Hersteller wieder sehen!
Mit Einheitsbrei werden die Hersteller nur zu eins: Sponsoren. Sie kleben ihren Firmennamen auf’s Auto und das ist es…

Reisauflauf

Austrian Desserts: Reisauflauf

Ingredients (3 to 4 persons)
125 g of rice
125 mL of milk
salt
grated cinnamon
50 g of butter
50 g of sugar
3 eggs

What Reisauflauf is
A simple rice cake that is served hot as a dessert or main - the term “Auflauf” generally refers to a variety of meals that are made in casseroles and baked in the oven.
It is a simple dish that is easy to prepare.

How to prepare Reisauflauf
Boil the milk and add all spices.
Boil the rice in it until it is soft.
Mix the butter with the sugar until foamy, stir in the yolks and mix all with the rice.
Whip the egg white until stiff and mix them with the rice-dough.
Grease a casserole or frying pan and coat it with some breadcrumbs.
Then put the dough into it and bake at 175 degrees Celsius for about 40 minutes until golden-brown.
Cut it into cubes and serve with chutney or fruit stew.
